Tillamook’s colossal blimp hangar’s uncertain future

January 2026

Tillamook, Oregon

The 83-year-old World War II-era blimp hangar known today as the Tillamook Air Museum sits closed to the public at the Port of Tillamook Bay in Tillamook, Ore., on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026. The massive wooden structure is large enough to hold six football fields. On Dec. 18, a windstorm tore away a roughly 200-foot-long section of its metal roof, leaving a gaping opening and intensifying calls for millions in repairs to preserve the landmark.
