My folks, sister, nephews and I explored Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge for the first time in January of 2026. Not one of us had been before and we've been in the Portland area since 1991. Definitely going back.

I've never seen so that many blue herons in one spot in my entire life -- were at least a few dozen all hanging out together in the far off distance.
